A leading accountancy firm operates four buildings in the City of London. Together they employ around 3000 people, with staff needing to move freely between the offices. Work often carries on late into the night, so access is required 24 hours a day.
Previously, guards manually checked ID cards on entry, but this had led to unauthorized people slipping in unnoticed while the guards were busy. The company undertook a security review to see how expensive equipment could be further protected from theft and the confidentiality of client information increased. It was also important to make the offices as safe as possible for staff.
The most difficult aspect of the project was to ensure that the system did not inconvenience staff as they entered the building. For this reason the partners of the firm did not wish to use 'sports arena' style turnstiles which were seen as slow and obstructive.
Fastlane® optical turnstiles provided the solution. Following the systems introduction, the number of security incidents fell. Every person is automatically monitored on entry and exit, eliminating tailgating. Fastlane accentuates the attractive reception areas while offering the highest level of security required.
From an employee relations perspective the system has succeeded in providing a secure but 'nonconfrontational' environment. Guards can now concentrate on providing service to visitors, confident that any violations will immediately be brought to their attention.
